Jumanji

I started rehearsal for Jumanji yesterday at Adventure Theatre in Glen Echo Park. The area is managed by a cooperation between the Glen Echo Partnership for Arts and Culture, Maryland, Montgomery County, and the National Parks Service—but it actually looks and feels like the abandoned amusement park where Batman and the Joker have their final duel in The Long Halloween.

At night it is a spooky walk with semi-distance lights reflecting semi-sanitary glass onto an abandoned outdoor stage. The air is filled with forest mist, subtle yet constant. A few picnic tables line a grassy knoll which leads to a permit parking only area, and finally to a Irish restaurant that looks more like a sleepy hotel.

I think I might be in love.
