Forgot the onion at the checkout isle,
And doubled back as it began to rain.
The Monday chili wouldn’t stand a chance,
And rather to be drenched than you complain.
The grocery store was bright and warm inside
And reaching for the door I felt her stare;
The raincoat was a steel and blinding blue
Together we waltzed, the entrance did we share.
Arriving home you asked why long so took?
I shrugged, and threw my ‘brella in the cask.
You questioned more compelling me to fear,
That one more thought just might have cracked my mask.
Hold fast to moral codes within the home,
Or, speak if you’re content to live alone.
