Although I completely support cancer research, having lost my mother to breast cancer in 2003 (or, 04. I don’t really remember), I also wanted to drop a few unnecessary pounds.
Some of you know I’ve run numerous half marathons and 15K’s, but I’ve never ventured over to swimming, and what greater way to venerate my mothers memory than by swimming in open waters to raise money for cancer treatments.
What makes you think I can swim 1-mile in open waters? Good question. I’m not so sure I can either so I guess this might be somewhat of a goodbye (just kidding, that’s morbid.) I’m sure I can do it. If I can’t, I believe there will be kayaks nearby.
The proceeds of our SWIMS will support cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center-SAA Laboratory, the Children?s Hospital at Montefiore, and the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Also, we are supporting Fighting Chance, a free Cancer Resource and Counseling Center in Sag Harbor, NY and the MIRACLE Pavilion at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, NY.
If you can help, you can make your donation online via the attached link.
PS. That’s just a picture of my father. He doesn’t have cancer.
